THE CHILD WITHIN

Where is the child in you?
When will she run with opened arms to reach out to her Love?
I see glimpses of her hiding behind the trees in the forest.
Where does she play? Where does she stay? Why does she run away?

Her smile is like a morning sun – bright and filled with life;
Yet as the day grows old; the daily strife stabs like a knife.
The inner child is scolded and her brightness dims to a flickering sigh.
Where does the child fly? Among the birds on high? Or did she die?

When again can I see the child in you? Are the days too few? Is there more to do?
Can a man be a child too? Or will I always miss it as do you?

Time has taken its toll on you – yet, no marks show through.
The youth within the chapters written are but a few,
And contain a verse no worse than I love you.
She romps, scampers and dances; she takes her chances!

Butterflies and cotton candy, a calico dress and all that’s handy;
Run child run! Don’t be caught!
For all that can be bought, there is no battle left unsought!
Yet you fight after all is fought – and for Naught?

Give way to your inner child. She cries in the night.
Go to her. Lift your breast to her and feed the starving innocence.
Make ready the days when instead of tears your pillow will rest your head instead,
And the child’s laughter will in thee be wed.

May fear be banished from the playground of your life.
May a new day dawn and all tears be gone,
And that will give the children in your core a reason to hope and play once more.
In a whisper: Go quickly – she’s waiting just outside your door!
