2001-04-27 - 4:12 p.m. ONCE UPON A TIME Once upon a time I saw sunlight in her hair Walking by the brook, her song drifting toward my ear But that was once upon a time … Now the song is gone. Once upon a time I dreamed of children on my knee We’d talk about the world, and everything we’d see But that was once upon a time … Now the dream is gone. Once upon a time, I held her in my arms all night And listen for the dawn, and smiled at the light But that was once upon a time … Now the smile’s gone. Once upon a time, I wrote poetry to her name With passion in my pen, I'd pour my heart out until I’d cry But that was once upon a time … Now the pen is dry. Once upon a time, I imagined life with her was bliss The gentle moments passed, and tenderly we *kissed* But that was once upon a time … Now the girl is missed. Once upon a time, I threw caution to the wind, And sailed across the sea, to be with Her and yearn. But that was once upon a time … Now she waits no more my return Once upon a time, a young man I used to be Cocky as the wind, and yearning to be free But that was once upon a time … Now it’s just a memory Once upon a time, I had a second chance at life I beckoned her to come, and stand here as my wife But that was once upon a time … Now all I have is strife. Once upon a time, no greater fool than I Would smile at the wind, and the distance I’d defy But that was once upon a time … Now it’s time to cry.
