A Word by Any Other Name…

Recently a rash of R-rated Hollywood movies have begun to make their way into syndicated television. The problem is that these TV channels are family oriented. In order to come up to "code" the station executives have opted for a cleaned-up version of these films. For example, the movie The Goodtime Boys has some 74 mentions of the popular "Fuck You" phrase that needs to be cleaned up for general viewing.

A growing popular way to sync-dub "Fuck you" is with the phrase "Forget you!"

This raises an interesting question. Is a movie rating based solely on the vocabulary or the intention of the word? Surely "forget you" does not mean the same As "Fuck You" -- except when Robert Dinero holding a knife to the throat of his young victim speaks it.

As a result what are we to think now of the phrase "Forget Me Not" or "I won't forget to the walk the dog."?

Well, obviously, I have way too much free time on my hands, so I think I will go to the movies and not forget my date.
