Remembering Christmas

The innocent eyes of children gaze,

I, unwrapping treasures of yesterdays.

As time stands still, i relive my past --

The dreams and schemes and wishes cast.

A warming smile as i recall,

These cherished memories when i was small:

Let iron trains roar 'round the tree,

And carry thoughts of fantasy!

Passed make-believe towns and kingdoms grand,

I grow not old with these thoughts at hand!

In the shortness of a breath i see my son --

His young life barely just begun.

I wonder what his eyes will see.

I gasp! My god! Could that be me?

A mirror image some people say --

A miraculous blessing in a special way.

Pray what treasures will he collect?

And upon which moments will he reflect?

With goodness cloaked within his heart

That evil dare not tear apart

The incredible wonder which fills his mind,

And to that all the love we'll find.

Thus, so this hour comes and goes,

While wisdom reaps what knowledge sows:

My passing childhood that could not stay,

Is born each year on Christmas Day!
