2000-11-22 - 15:06:32 THANKSGIVING DAY MEMORIES I want to wish all my readers a very bountiful Thanksgiving Day. And I want to remind you all that the family you dine with is just a small part of the family we call the human race -- lets not forget them when why say grace. This is a good time to think about what we are most thankful, and to acknowledge those in our lives who have touched us and guided us and given us hope and love when we needed it most. There are some special friends I have come to love during the past year or more. One very special one who knows who she is, and needs no introduction. To these special people I send my love and extend my hand with all that I may give to you. This Thanksgiving will mark the first Thanksgiving in my lifetime with out my Mom and Aunt…or any of the women I knew as a child. The kitchen will be dark and the oven cold this year… The baking board will remain tucked away, and the corner of the room where I used to cut the chestnuts will be empty. All the smells and tastes of the holidays have been neatly wrapped and committed to memories - some day to be opened for my family, for my wife and daughters… God willing. But the spirit of this day will not be lost, nor will it be lonely… The love that was shared this day will not be abandoned, nor will it be left ungiven. I will take what they have taught me and carry it with me to the Settlement House Shelter where I will be preparing with other volunteers some 100 or so Thanksgiving Day meals for the homeless and poor… Nothing could better return to others what I have been give so much of… So join with me in a toast to our friendship. May we nurture each other and be there for each other every day of every year as we give thanks to each other for being each other's family. Happy Thanksgiving & May God Bless.
