WHEN CHILDREN ARE LOVED - May 26, 2013

Children are the most amazing creatures my wife and I could ever imagine. She and I have been married for six years. We've known each other for over thirteen years. We started living together shortly after she entered college.

Friends tell us we have the most amazing marriage in that not only is there a great difference in our ages, but that difference seems some how to make our feelings and love for each other so intense. Friends freely admit they envy us for how we work together as tight team, and how our daughter Elizabeth looks s much like both of us.

[A picture of Elizabeth can be found in my guest book under "HOME."]

I still call my wife Calpurnia, partly because it reminds me of the first days we knew each other, and partly because she loves to remember the silly way we met. We were married on March 15, 2008 in Tuscany, Italy… We traveled there as tourists and returned as man and wife. Our marriage had not been with out its uphill climbs, but surely with every step we took, two by two, our love grew deeper and more intense.

The uncanny thing about our child Elizabeth is that we both knew we would have her years before we actually began living together. We talked often of our family and of our life together.

Calpurnia and I complement each other in so many ways, and have so many common feelings that years earlier when we used to chat on line we used to type the same things at the same time.

Elizabeth is a very special child, born of two very special people. She is bright and lively, and curious, and playful and smart and so loving of the world around her. She loves to see her parents kiss and often encourages us to kiss for her… When we do, she giggles and hides her eyes -- then peaks. She not only makes our lives a triumphant victory, but a consummation of a life-long dream.

Elizabeth is a healthy 6 year old girl, who can speak two languages and is always asking questions and giving answers to her interpretation of my life. Elizabeth looks older that she is... a trait she gets from her mother. How I love that girl! My wife and I are always in awe of how incredibly miraculous her existence is, and how wonderful she is to have.

Calpurnia sits in the window seat watching our Elizabeth play on the thick pile carpet as we did when she was two and three and four and every year that we lived in this house. In a few months we can look forward to it again… Calpurnia’s womb is full and ripe once more. Now its with our son Jon. As a physician she knows how important it is for a mother and child to grow in a world of calm love and sweet moments. As her husband, I watch over the creation of heaven on earth. I pray a prayer of thanks each day to God for allowing me to see the beauty that I have helped create… I love you Elizabeth as I have loved your mother since the day we met. *Kiss*
